The Platinum Jubilee Commission

To mark the year of Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee, The Incorporation of Goldsmiths would like to commission a contemporary piece of Silverware for the table. The chosen piece of Silverware will become part of The Incorporation of Goldsmiths permanent collection. The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust are delighted to have been asked to assist the Incorporation in selecting a silversmith for the commission. The only stipulation of the design brief is that the commission must incorporate a prominent Edinburgh Assay Office feature hallmark, which must include The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee mark.

Spotlight On: Amber Doughty

Based just outside of Reading, at Bishopsland Educational Trust, Amber Doughty is a jeweller and silversmith. Her work is centred in ancient mythological beliefs, drawing on motifs from legends to create her own physical interpretations, weaving symbolic details into her pieces. Inspired by abstract deific concepts, her aesthetic is driven by elegance and the otherworldly. She enjoys the versatility of precious materials and strives to run an ethically responsible practice. Using ancient techniques to create contemporary pieces, she accentuates her designs with engraving and enamel to add colour and textural form to her work.

Monica Findlay’s work combines precious and non-precious metals emphasise habitual traces that are often overlooked, extending curiosity from maker to viewer. Fairtrade Fortnight: Lisa Rothwell-Young

In celebration of the upcoming Fairtrade Fortnight, we spoke to makers who have worked to incorporate ethical, sustainable practices in their work, particularly in the use of Fairtrade precious metals. The Flourish Jewellery Project

The Edinburgh-based Flourish Jewellery Project will unveil the striking jewellery of it’s participants in the upcoming Flourish exhibition from 22-25 January 2022.
