Radical Jewellery Makeover is Coming to Scotland

The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust are bringing Radical Jewellery Makeover to the UK for the first time. Jewellery students from The Glasgow School of Art, City of Glasgow College, Glasgow Kelvin College, Edinburgh College of Art, Fife College and Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and their tutors will be transforming donations into radically fresh and responsible jewellery. The project will culminate in an exhibition of these wearable creations, available to purchase and displayed in Glasgow at the end of March.

Those tangled chains, unmatched earrings and banged up bracelets sitting at the bottom of jewellery boxes around Scotland are exactly what jewellery artists participating in RJM want to get their creative hands on. Until 7 January 2022, the non-profit Ethical Metalsmiths and The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust are accepting donations of old, unwanted jewellery. This project cannot happen without the support of the community’s donations!

Donors will receive discount coupons to apply toward the purchase of a new piece and sales will benefit The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust Ethical Making Programme and Ethical Metalsmiths' efforts to educate and connect people with responsibly sourced materials. Radical Jewellery Makeover has been traveling nationally and internationally to communities since 2007, educating jewellers of all levels about mining and material sourcing issues involved in jewellery making through a fun, fast paced project.

Donations can be made via mail to The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust or dropped off at locations in Edinburgh and Fife. For more details on the project and how to donate, please visit the link below.

This project has been made possible by support from Jamieson & Carry and The Culture & Business Fund Scotland.
