Call for Trustee
The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust is seeking a new Trustee.
The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust (SGT) has a dynamic programme of opportunities, exhibitions and awards. Our work promotes and supports the education, art and craft of Scotland’s gold and silversmithing heritage and trade. In recent years, we have created the Ethical Making Programme to support the adoption of responsible practices in Jewellery and Silversmithing that contribute to addressing the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The SGT also curates the Millennium Silver collection, Silver of the Stars and the historical archives of The Incorporation of Goldsmiths.
The Board is seeking to appoint a Trustee who will serve a three-year term, after which there is an opportunity to renew for one more term, resulting in a maximum term of six years. We are looking for a Trustee with expertise in Community Engagement.
We have experience of delivering workshops and talks in local primary schools, community groups and public museums and galleries as well as online events both in the UK and abroad.
The challenge we have is reaching people often underrepresented in craft audiences and in the makers community. We want to help make jewellery and silversmithing more accessible, with greater equality and diversity. Trustees will help to develop our own EDI policy and support the Chief Executive and her team by sharing their knowledge and experience of community engagement. Applicants with experience of working with underrepresented or marginalised groups would be of particular interest.
The Board meets five times a year in Edinburgh (hybrid possible) including an AGM. Trustees are also encouraged to attend SGT events when possible. All Trustees volunteer their time to the charity, but reasonable travel expenses can be reimbursed (within Scotland).
The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust aims to diversify the voices on the Board and would therefore particularly welcome applications from individuals who have been historically underrepresented in these positions due to age, disability, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, faith or belief, or socio-economic background.
Candidates will have a passion for jewellery and silversmithing and act as key ambassadors to a wide range of external stakeholders.
For further information, and details of how to apply please contact ebba@scottishgoldsmithstrust.org (Ebba Goring) with 'Trustee Application' in the subject line and you will be sent the Board Recruitment Pack.
The deadline is 20 May.
