The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust are among fourteen Scottish creative organisations and business owners to receive backing from The National Lottery through the latest round of Creative Scotland’s Go See Share programme.

Designed to help organisations and businesses grow and thrive, the initiative provides grants of between £3,000-£10,000 to enable recipients to research and identify export opportunities, forge international connections and profile Scotland’s creative successes in the global marketplace. Our research trip will focus on design-led silversmithing. Ebba Goring (CEO) and Karin Paynter (Design and Communications), currently working together on the SGT Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop, are eager to further support Silversmithing in Scotland by developing commercial and marketing research and residency exchange opportunities at home and internationally.

The Scottish Goldsmiths Trust (SGT) are thrilled to receive this support from Creative Scotland. We will use the Go, See, Share fund to build relationships with key stakeholders in the Silversmithing sector in Scandinavia. We hope to establish residency exchange opportunities at our Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop in the Scottish Borders and develop connections with organisations to promote these residencies, and aspire to create reciprocal residencies in Denmark and Sweden. This work forms part of our long-term programming strategy to support the education, art and craft of Silversmithing at all career stages. We believe it is vital to take a holistic approach, encouraging the commissioning and purchasing of contemporary silver to ensure our sector has a sustainable economic future.

We hope to conduct commercial and marketing research specifically for Silversmithing in Sweden and Denmark. By looking at successful business models and approaches, particularly collective galleries, the Danish national design policy, consumer trend data and anecdotal information from makers, we will expand our knowledge and identify new ways of working. We look forward to sharing what we learn later in the year
